Asha-Kin graduated in 1979 from the Somali National University, Faculty of Law and Jurisprudence in Mogadishu (Somalia).  In 1984 she established the Shabelle Law & Consultancy Firm in Mogadishu as a Defence Counsel, got involved in major political trials from 1988-90 that were reported in Amnesty International Annual Reports.  She was the first and only female Counsel that defended capital punishment cases at    Extraordinary National Security Court .

In 1995 she graduated from the School of African and Asian Studies (SOAS) in London obtaining an LLM in Human Rights, Ethnic Minorities and Law and an LLM in Islamic Law of Succession. She worked as a Partnership Community Advisor at Voluntary Action promoting UK Child Safeguarding laws within BME communities vis a vis harmful traditional practices including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), witchcraft/spirit possession, forced marriage and honour based violence.

In 2011-20I2 she was selected by the Somali Government as one of the 9 members of the Committee of Experts reviewing the current Provisional Constitution of Somalia and has provided consultancy work to different Ministerial institutions in drafting or amending laws related to their work e.g. Petroleum, Labour code, private security companies, e-commerce, etc.

Asha-Kin has re-established her Law & Consultancy Firm in Mogadishu under the new management and named Duale Law & Consultancy Firm in 2018.
She is a prolific contributor to several websites by writing articles on current legal, political and socio-economic issues of Somali society both in the diaspora and inside the country.
